Obamarama

This is such overt, shameless demagoguery! Really, how stupid does Obama think the evangelicals are? Okay, they are politically stupid, I admit, but they can definitely see through such a transparent ploy. That said, however, I think talking about public morals a la Martin Luther King Jr. should be an important part of any honest candidate's campaign. National health care, living wage, demilitarization, protecting the environment/workers, political corruption, etc are all moral issues and one need not be apologetic about identifying them as such. We can rest assured though that no Democrat ever will ever adopt such a "moral" message...

Obama Tells Dems to Get Religion
Democratic Rising Star Has a Message for His Party
By DAN HARRIS

June 29, 2006 --- Democrats need to get religion and mean it, according to Sen. Barack Obama.

Obama took his party to task for ceding faith to the Republican Party at a speech in front of church and lay leaders at the National City Christian Church in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.

"If we don't reach out to evangelical Christians and other religious Americans and tell them what we stand for, the Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons and Alan Keyes's views will continue to hold sway," the Illinois lawmaker said.

J. Alva Scruggs:

The faith-based values, electability canard was pretty thoroughly debunked after the undead Windsurfer was returned to his jar of formaldehyde. It remained part of the Beltway flapdoodles' groupthink nevertheless.

Obama may lack the guts to buck a known idiocy. He might be working the marks to lower their expectations. And he might be signaling a little respect to the leadership of the cranky religious right.

While Obama and Dean are searching for the mythical El Dorado of Values Voters, what are the odds that Republican claimjumpers will drygultch the pair and leave 'em staked out for the buzzards? I'd watch for a righteous bushwackin' the next time Dean's on the 700 Club.

Mr. Smithee, your knowledge of B Movies gives you a considerable advantage in these discussions.

Arthur Gilroy:

Obama's a frontrunner and a shameless political hustler.

(Hustler. That's short for "whore".)

i heard him tapdance his way through a minefield on that strident Whatshername's afternoon show on Air America when he first got (suddenly) famous, and...he's not even GOOD at it.

The DemRat Dance, that is.

Transparently false.

And suddenly famous.

HOW much money does it take to get someone elected Senator again? One day a relative unknown, the next a keynote convention speaker and credit-to-his-race Senator?

Too bad the money didn't go to John Conyers.

But...oh, I forgot.

Mr. Conyers can't be trusted to lie through his teeth.

Later...
