Says it all

By Michael J. Smith on Saturday September 10, 2011 10:34 PM

Taken by my sharp-eyed daughter today near New Paltz, New York, after a very pleasant leisurely hike in the Shawangunks. The kids and I wanted to get out of New York City for as much of Nineleven Weekend as we could manage.

Things are just as sucky in Binghamton, although burning Al Gore in effigy seems to have helped.

There comes a time and a place to end all road work. Your daughter is prescient in this manner.

The only good thing I've ever really done is leave a bit of learning to my sons. I never had a daughter. I hope you can leave a bit of learning to her.

That's what I liked about the picture. Is the sign indicative mood, or imperative? I'm right there with it, either way. Son & daughter both saw the humor in it, so non omnis moriar, as the man said.

"non omnis moriar"

I had to look that up. Not much of a Latin guy.

However, Fuckin' A is what I say to that. The biological imperative to procreate isn't a bad thing at all.

I'm just a profane son of a bitch too.

Peter Ward:

Not related, but too goddamn important to leave unmentioned:

The plagiarism scandals that rocked the political world in Germany this year have led to a period of soul-searching among academics and researchers around the country.

At issue is the prestigious title of doctor, which is widely used in Germany, even outside academics circles.
My heart goes out to any Germans who may be in the audience.

Good choice, as chance would have it, my wife and I were on the opposite shore, in the East Hudson Highlands, also hiking, same rationale.

juan:

ah, no one ever 'wholly dies'
we all make history

Note also that comments with three or more links may be held for "moderation" -- a strange term to apply to the ghost in this blog's machine. Seems to be a hard-coded limitation of the blog software, unfortunately.
