Νεφελοκοκκυγία

early-cuckoo-clock

David Brooks and Richard Cohen aren’t the only people whom Edward Snowden has set to snapping at imaginary flies. A surprising number of my Lefty mailing list comrades have caught the infection too. Here, offered without comment, a communication that just crossed my desk, and had me laughing so hard I really thought I’d pull a muscle:

This whole brouhaha about information gathering is nothing but libertarian or conspiracist fantasies acting as useful idiots for Republican operatives trying to manufacture some shit on Obama – swift boat captains redux if you will. As I sad before, I am not a big supporter of Obama, but I find this kind of tactics quite repulsive.

  1. Appears to me the right — or at least the righties I know — have been mostly silent on this matter, and when not silent rather supportive of the prez, having themselves endorsed the expansion of the surveillance state at least going back to Tricky Dick.

  2. The MSNBC clowns were all babbling about how Snowden was a Libertarian, a Ron Paul supporter, as if somehow it made what he did any less conscientious, or courageous, or important. No surprise there. I’m also not surprised that “establishment” Lefties/Pwogs/Liberals have seized on that to mock the guy and call him a conspiracy nut — basically the same reaction they had to the news of the IRS surveilling the records of Tea Party outfits. If it had been Code Pink, they’d have been screaming bloody murder, but since it was Tea Partiers, they’re like, “m’eh, it’s the GOP trying to manufacture a scandal”.

  3. In fairness to Richard Cohen and David Brooks, they are just media whores doing their job. Cohen at least acknowledges that we all know this kind of shit goes on but maintains it’s no big deal.

If there is any creature on the “left” that tires more than these guys it’s the trained monkeys who shout “conspiracy theory” at everyone who exposes the ruling elite’s bullshit or makes a compelling argument against it. This has become their talisman against all evil, especially under Obama. The left has been conditioned to respond with ridicule to anyone who doesn’t tow the mass media/government line on any given question. What’s truly laughable is that little of what goes on is really much of a “conspiracy” as the government does much of this stuff pretty much in the open. WTF did they think the NSA was building that huge data center for, to backup the Library of Congress? Why do they think Al Qaeda mysteriously manages to always be fighting on the US side in every conflict, because they are history’s most incompetent terrorists?

Anyone who isn’t convinced by now that the ruling elite will do whatever it takes to expand and protect its power should go back to watching MSNBC until his eyelids crack.

      yEP, generally al[ready] open source……….

  4. I’m just waiting for Mark Ames to tell us Snowden and supporters are actually paid operatives of the private sector, working to discredit the NSA so a private company can come in and take over.
