Billmon: credit where it's due

By Michael J. Smith on Friday August 4, 2006 02:30 PM

Billmon has come in for some disrespectful treatment here, so it's only fair to point out that he recently hit one right out of the park:
It looks as if Ned Lamont is riding the anti-war wave to victory in the Connecticut Democratic primary -- or so the latest polls suggest....

Oh I know Ned says he's anti-war, but he only means the war in Iraq. The war in Lebanon, on the other hand, is just fine by him. And he's already pledged he'll be just as staunch a friend of Israel and the Israel lobby in this war as Holy Joe ever was or ever could be....

Lamont's stance also reflects a glaring contradiction in the emerging Democratic consensus on U.S. policy in the Middle East.... it's a position that won't be sustainable for long.... it's a recipe for an even wider and more destructive war -- one I fully expect most Democrats, including Lamont, will end up supporting, despite the consequences.

... there is no real distinction between America's occupation of Iraq and Israel's intended re-occupation of southern Lebanon. They are, in essence, both part of the next war....

What's become clear to me is that the Democratic Party (even it's allegedly anti-war wing) will not try to stop this insanity, and in fact will probably be led as meekly to the slaughter as it was during the runup to the Iraq invasion. Watching the Dems line up to salute the Israeli war machine, hearing the uncomfortable and awkward silence descend on most of Left Blogistan once the bombs started falling in Lebanon, seeing how easily the same Orwellian propaganda tricks worked their magic on the pseudoliberals -- all this doesn't leave too much room for doubt. As long as World War III can be sold as protecting the security and survival of the Jewish state, I suspect the overwhelming majority of Democratics will support it.

Amen, brother.

If Ned Lamont doesn't denounce the destruction of Lebanon, as far as I'm concerned, this is what he is.

This just goes on and on. Anybody who isn't feeling like like Billmon, like putting a gun to your own head and blowing your brains out simply isn't human.

"The children were taken to a concentration camp at the Gneisenaustreet in £ódŸ (nowadays in Poland), where they were sorted by racial criteria, and those deemed suitable for 'Aryanization' were shipped to Germany (after the war most were found and returned); the rest of the children (82) were gassed in Che³mno."

"Very lovely women indeed. The more westernized they
are, the hotter they look. Despite what they say, little bit of cultural
imperialism never hurt anybody."

If some terrorist rams a 747 into my house and burns my white ass to a crisp, I wouldn't blame him in the least.

please guys

if you can't see a defeat of lieb in the primary
as both
important and positive
as part of a process
just because the movement has so fucking far to travel
clearly you don't know how fast things can go ...

let the message ring out if joe goes down in the primary

" fuck heads
you others will follow"

once first blood is drawn...

hey there are stages

if the movement keeps going (and who dares say they know now which line is un passable )
there will be plenty
of time and opportunity
to deal with
the lamonts if they don't morph left
with the movement

Billmon's been on fire recently, but more in quantity than quality. He's always been this good, though occasionally slow to drop the Democrats or demand immediate withdrawal.

Glad you're on board for the big win.

to me billmon is being a tad self indulgent here

i suspect unlike that unwavering savanrola
father smiff

he shares a fondness
like me
for glimmers of donk
self renewal

this lebanon thang just has him frazzled and in a noble heart's despair
as he views say that donk senate vote
on the mini me
revenge blitz

but hey
he reminds me
of those lost
patrol stories
where ironically
the guys almost quit
and just
before climbing the last hill ...

which when in angry fed up temper
they do reveals
below them
the green valley
of redemption

let the message ring out if joe goes down in the primary

" fuck heads
you others will follow"

If I thought the campaign against Lieberman were really part of a larger effort against the Dem establishment, I'd agree.

But my gut feeling tells me its actually part of a campaign to scapegoat one member of the Dem establishment to save the rest.

The same people who are going after Lieberman still worship Al Gore, even after Gore decided not to fight the stolen election.

I may be wrong. I hope I'm wrong. But something about people who are pissed about some Green taking 50,000 bucks in PA and are doing their best to ignore the destruction of a whole country just doesn't feel right.

J. Alva Scruggs:

I could see the defeat of Lieberman as positive. It looks like that has a good chance whether I do or not. He's managed to wreck his image substantially. Lamont would make all the liberals feel much better about themselves.

I can't see his primary victory doing much good unless he also loses the election. The Clintonistas would shed a few crocodile tears for Joe and then work on integrating Lamont into the club. I give that three seconds of struggle, if there's any at all.

its always smart to bet on absorption

base brush fires
blowing themselves out
looks like

just wants to be "real"

sure this pending joe sacrifice could go cleanly
and if if not
is but a small scene
in a far larger act

and this act
in its full out workings
may prove
as still born as the woodstock uprising
of 67-72

but let us at least aknowledge the spark

after all if after this primary wack
joe's party pals
call for him to pack it in
"they" feed us baseniks
one mighty joe's

then we're on to stage two here
who's to say we won't aquire
a flash taste
severed heads

mighty ones....

even a craving undivertable
for errr ...
st manly gal's nogin

I can dig where Billmon's head is at. It's like you wake up one morning to find that every liberal you knew has been replicated and replaced during the night by an imitation liberal "progressive."

It's The Attack of the Prog-People!
