The shattered visage

By Michael J. Smith on Friday May 25, 2007 08:42 PM

Hillary from below, image

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
"Sands" seems especially piquant just now, don't you think?

How about "Democracy"?

This is about Iowa, right? ...about her getting a note from some junior woodchuck talking about how she shouldn't run in the Iowa caucus because she might lose?

Kee-rist. Stop me if I'm wrong, but what's the point of all the goddamn' work if you're going to back off from your first major challenge because there's a chance you might lose?

And, how young was this junior woodchuck, anyway? Young enough to have gone to one of those self-esteem schools where everybody gets a medal just for showing up for class, and everybody makes the football team, and all that crap?

That's just friggin' rich... Ms. Big, Bad Corporate Cash Loaded She Is Woman Hear Her Roar Hillary is afraid to run in a party Presidential Caucus because she might lose.

Meanwhile, The Onion's "American Voices" column has a good take on the Hillary Wimpout:

Actually, come to think of it, I've always enjoyed the Monty Python version:

My name is Ozymandias, King Of Ants!
Look on my feelers, ye Termites, and despair!
I am the biggest ant you'll ever see!
The ants of old weren't brave and bold
or big and fierce as me!

St. Hill will campaign in Iowa, tho she doesn't particularly need it for the nom. All she needs is a few IA delegates for show, which she already has from the Vilsack's org, anyway.

Note also that comments with three or more links may be held for "moderation" -- a strange term to apply to the ghost in this blog's machine. Seems to be a hard-coded limitation of the blog software, unfortunately.
