Horatio at the bridge

By Owen Paine on Wednesday April 22, 2009 06:54 PM

Betty Warren leads an internally conflicted repug sandbagged band of powerless irresolutes -- hardly a second Pecora committe -- probing the bankstah hail-the-bail menace.

But undaunted, she soldiers on, sans woeful countenance.

Just thought SMBIVA owed her a nod of human respect, grievous merit duchess though she be.

I quite like Elizabeth Warren, even if she is toothless. I was going to mention her on the Brooksley Born thread.

At the end of the day though, it's pretty sad that she is the best thing going in terms of a defender of the public interest. I'd like to see some War on Drugs militarized police reassigned to the white collar beat. Make their budget dependent on assets and foreign credit cards impounded, give every officer a 10 bp commission. They could have a show like Cops where they show them lobbing tear gas onto the trading floor, bludgeoning a few banksters (it's the only language they understand) and lining them up on the curb with their ankles zip-tied. I can dream can't I?

I always thought Nathan Hale struck just the right balance with his forceful yet principled approach to regulation:

Note also that comments with three or more links may be held for "moderation" -- a strange term to apply to the ghost in this blog's machine. Seems to be a hard-coded limitation of the blog software, unfortunately.
