More time to loaf

a sage over at the dougout :

"I hope everyone remembers that in the original greek, the root of school meant "leisure." Students, like the whole workingclass, need more time to loaf. That should be the very center of leftstruggle. More time to loaf. It would even make a good revolutionary slogan. "

Sandwichman:

Loafing isn't the half of it.

Chomskyzinn:

I am all for the leisure revolution. But we may hit some snags with the Uncle Maurys of the world. I attempted to debate this very subject with my Uncle Maury one Thanksgjving. His reply: "What, you think the schvartzes don't have enough free time already."

In Maury's world, all social movements and progress lead to one destination: the schvartzes.

MJS:

Delicious. What thread was that in, Owen?

mjs didn't keep it

uncle maury has joe conrad syndrome

Chomskyzinn:

That and many other syndromes and conditions too. The type who bores us with "how hard I worked to get everything I have." with the help of undocumented labor, no doubt.

"More time to loaf"? Whoa, wotta concept.

"Bread And Roses", I believe, was the expression from back in the day.

Bread and roses, FUCK YEAH.

Note also that comments with three or more links may be held for "moderation" -- a strange term to apply to the ghost in this blog's machine. Seems to be a hard-coded limitation of the blog software, unfortunately.
