Let's hear it for endless war

By Michael J. Smith on Wednesday October 4, 2006 01:45 PM

From the Washington Post:
Democrats criticized Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) yesterday for saying that the Afghan war against Taliban guerrillas can never be won militarily and for favoring bringing "people who call themselves Taliban" into the government.

Democrats accused Frist of trying to "cut and run" in Afghanistan, something Republicans have been accusing Democrats of seeking to do in Iraq.

"Senator Frist now suggests that the best way forward in Afghanistan is to coddle the Taliban by welcoming Taliban members into a coalition government, as if 9/11 had never happened," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said yesterday in a statement.

The Republicans had their war, and now the Democrats, it seems, want to have one of their own -- or at least, adopt one.

How many traps can the Dems fall into? Just when Bush's war policies are about to be soundly rejected by the electorate, Dems take up the mantle. The British have already cut a deal with the Taliban, as has Pakistan. Frist's recommendation for bringing the Taliban into the government sounds like a trial balloon for something the administration would like to do.

How much Bush crow are the Dems willing to eat?

Oh! So it was the Taliban that flew the planes into the WTC & Pentagon! Thanks, Madame Pelosi! I was all confused there. I must've forgotten that 9/11 changed everything. It made democrats dumber, for one...

I guarantee you about 90% of Americans -- the majority of both parties' bases, as well as the huge chunk of unaffiliated voters -- believe that the Taliban and al-Qaeda are basically the same thing and that the Taliban was personally involved in planning the 9-11 attacks.

Was Pelosi ever really to the left of Margaret Thatcher ? Or was that just a rumor started by the DP after her acension so we'd think they were learning something useful about who to kick upstairs ?

Every time that repulsive little toady opens her mouth, I'm reminded of how she was waved before us as a beacon of Things Getting Better, and I want to scrub my skin with coarse sandpaper. >:
