WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, under attack from a rival who portrays him as naive on foreign policy, declared Wednesday that he would use military force against Al Qaeda operatives hiding in tribal areas of Pakistan if that nation did not move more aggressively against them first.
The Illinois senator said he would take military action as president, if necessary, despite the risk of undercutting Pakistan's leader, President Pervez Musharraf, an important American ally.
"I understand that President Musharraf has his own challenges," Obama said. "But let me make this clear. There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. ... If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf will not act, we will."
Bless their hearts! Those kids are willing to compete with the big boys in thoughtlessly bellicose eructations.
Obama let himself get out cruise missiled on this one and now he's shown that he can be goaded into foolish boasting.

Well, sure he does. He's just the kind to do that. But my gripe concerns the poseurs who try to steal his unique form of thunder. He should file a patent for it and sue people using AEI's lawyers.
I would think, by now, that there's room for someone who could offer a bit of John Dewey style politics. Liberals like John Dewey, right? Ralph Nader is still around. He comes close enough for, erm, government work. Instead, these horrible creatures who fly under flag of progressive offer the feckless, calculated dyspepsia version of Boltonism. For me, it's a coin toss as to whether they really are such cretins, or whether their cretinous street theatre is designed to destroy what's left of their constituents' moral sense.

...I didn't flinch a bit, not even mildly surprised, when the Post hit my front stoop the other morning with that front-page report of Obombirana's dick...uh, sorry, cruise-missile-wiggling at Pakistan (cripes, how come we never attack a country with a goddamn' air force, anyway?), and I was instantly reminded of the '04 Donkeycratic Convention, when every single nomination front-runner -- along with then-newly-minted rock star Obama -- stepped up to the podium and told us how bad they were itching to stomp the living shit out of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kantunderstan, or any other "raghead" country that looks at us cross-eyed.
(And to think my DW gives me a hard time for being such a news video pack rat...)
