Meanwhile, this idiot....

By Michael J. Smith on Monday October 12, 2009 10:27 PM

... has some advice for us:

Get Off Obama's Back ...second thoughts from Michael Moore

We are weary, weary of war. The trillions that will have gone to these two wars have helped to bankrupt us as a nation -- financially and morally. To think of all the good we could have done with all that money!...

We're the majority now -- the majority by a significant margin! We call the shots -- and we need to tell this wimpy Congress to get busy and do what we say -- or else.

All I ask of those who voted for Obama is to not pile on him too quickly..... don't abandon the best hope we've had in our lifetime for change.....

Let us celebrate what people elsewhere are celebrating -- that America now has a sane and smart man in the White House...

The simple fact that he was elected was reason enough for him to be the recipient of this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

.... at precisely 11:00pm ET on November 4, 2008, Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. ... Never before had the election of one man made every other nation feel like they had won, too.

Perhaps that last observation is even true. Why, after all, shouldn't delusion be as globalized as every other commodity?

Just when one might have thought Moore had finally figured out he's been played for a sucker...WHAM! He writes a truckling, crawling little paean to the God-Emperor. What a slimy little imperial toady Moore has become.

gluelicker:

If "good" = "doing no harm," then in the geopolitical arena the only good the Obama Administration can accomplish will be an incidental byproduct of the objective limits to US power, for which we have the Bushies to thank, not curse.

gluelicker:

Moore's position is repugnant enough. The words he uses to express this position -- mimeographed from MoveOn flacks -- are truly cringeworthy.

Oh, I get the shtick. "Wimpy Congress" = "rapacious noblemen." "Obama" = "good Tsar."

The best film featuring Moore is called, Micheal Moore "Manufacturing Dissent". He's the same as severin and hannity just wearing blue.

The guy supported war criminal Wesley Clark for president, and continues to support war criminal Barrack Obama. I don't live inside his head so I don't know whether he's sincere or not. But if he is, he isn't very bright.

hce:

There's a clear continuity to Michael's posts these days: Medea Benjamin, and now Michael Moore. These two position themselves as lefty radicals, or critics of the center, but in reality they simply draw support away from the real left and lead it back to the center.

For a better radical, check out the lead article on today's Counterpunch reviewing a new London play about Thomas Paine.

Sean:

"what mikey sez oughta be

Well, maybe. If MM wants to come around and stop supporting the Dems, or use his popularity to boost third parties, then cool. I am not sure what to make of guys like MM. On the one hand, he does have the effect of rallying the faithful, which is always good. Beats the crap out of sitting at the keyboard and moaning. But rallying the faithful in what direction? That's the question.

Supporting the Dems constitutes defacto support for war, torture, the erosion of civil liberties, etc. If he's opposed to these things he should act accordingly. At the end of the day the psychopaths at the top of the food chain could give a tinker's damn whether you're a lefty or a righty, just so long as you play their game.

*standing ovation*

I was so disgusted that I had to leave the theater before his most recent film was over.

Roman Polanski's Tiny Penis:

Shorter Michael Moore: The problem is capitalism. It's deep and systematic and we need to start rethinking our position about socialism.

Shorter Michael J. Smith: The problem is Obama. If we got rid of Obama, the world would be perfect.

Now excuse me while I stick myself in a 12 year old (bottle of Scotch).

Mr. E Thallmann:

I think Obie has a point, pathetic and shark-nearing as Moore is.

Meanwhile, hi, PWOG. Are you enjoying your liberal priapism?

Oops, I typed obie instead of op-san. Sorry, sensei.

I am PWOG:

The problem with Medea Benjamin and Michael Moore is that they're actually decent human beings.

Benjamin may be wrong about Afghanistan, but she's still traveled to Kabul. She knows that if the US military pulls out a lot of the people (a lot of the women) she's met are going to be killed.

Michael Moore may not have the purity that MJS or Alan Smithee have but he's actually out on the front lines fighting for the working class and he knows that however bad Obama is he just might make things a little better than McCain would have.

So yeah, according to Stalinist Third Party principles, Moore and Benjamin might be the reformist enemies who are standing in the way of the revolution and Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld might just be the polarizing agents who will bring on the second storming of the Winter Palace.

But really, don't you think you're all just a bunch of upper middle class wankers who got your brains addled by too much edumacation?

Al Schumann:
The problem with Medea Benjamin and Michael Moore is that they're actually decent human beings.

Indeed. That's very nice. I'm confident they hold themselves to a high standard of interpersonal ethics and do their best to make amends where and when they fail. But, so what? This doesn't change their egregiously bad judgment. Benjamin's trips abroad aren't worth much when the traveler takes home a greater commitment to even worse judgment. How many legislators have done the same thing? Dozens? When the conclusion they reach is another impulse to advocate for making things worse, they would have done as well to simply turn on Fox News.

On the topic of lesser evilism, there's one thing that's now certain: Obama is worse than his predecessor. It's possible that McCain would have managed to be even worse. It's possible he would have had a stroke and President Palin would be in charge. Again, so what? A crank and a loon could as easily have managed to accidentally make things better. What we have now is a bright, rational, thoroughly competent man who is continuing the very same policies that made Cheney/Bush so damaging. He does it in complete sentences, without the twitching and unnerving irritability of the last president. The lurid freak show is outsourced to Biden.

As for revolution, this is silly, as is the imputed "worse the better" strategy. What grandiosity! You come off like a Freeper fixated on caricatures of hippies. Obama is already making things worse and has done more polarizing than Rumsfeld and Cheney. My god, look what he's done to the pwogs. They're polarized to the point where their only common outlet for activism is shrieking "fascism!" and wailing about the stupidity of the faux grassroots right wingers. They actually have less going for them than they did in the previous regime. Obama has successfully demobilized and atomized them.

But really, don't you think you're all just a bunch of upper middle class wankers who got your brains addled by too much edumacation?

You've been reading too much Atrios. His affected Brit slang and sophomoric emulation of the snide, right wing crotch-grabbing style are contagious.

What the fuck does the hobgoblin Rumsfeld have to do with anything. His adventurism, loose tongue, and unapologetic theatrics were a liability to US imperialism and he was chucked overboard at the end of 2006. Bob Gates the rational manager was brought on. Obama kept him. Case closed.

And I don't know what the hell this "Stalinist Third Partyism" verbiage is all about. The Stalinist CP'ers were notorious tailers of the DP and other diluted social democratic formations. Neither here nor there, good nor bad, just the facts, ma'am. This dude HAS been spending way too much time vacuuming up discourse from pwog-lib bloglandia.

How can MM go on the midnight dog-and-pony shows and proclaim "we need democracy instead of capitalism" and then pathetically defend the appointer of the Geithner-Summers hydra-head? He's ghastly.

MJS:

Owen does indeed have a point about Moore. The latter hasn't, as far as I know, given any kind of endorsement to the idea that aerial bombardment is maybe a Good Thing For The Women -- unlike Medea Benjamin. It's an important distinction and shouldn't be overlooked.

Still, to the extent that my self-assigned mission here is souring people on the Democratic Party, and Moore is encouraging 'em to hang in there -- to that extent, anyway, he's playing for the other team.

gluelicker:

MM epitomizes the dead-end celebrity cartoonism that is US political culture.

gluelicker:

The last (and oh-so predictable) redoubt of left-liberal excuse-makers remains Obama's overrated articulateness and intelligence. A sliver of truth there, but utterly, utterly irrelevant. Barbara Ehrenreich is horrifically guilt of this and needs to be called out too.

gluelicker:

OP, despite my rants, I hear you, but the "good Tsar" Obama genuflections which Moore practices only deter the mobilization of popular pressure on the DP regime we all have to live with. Your average agitated DP stalwart won't read Moore's shenanigans with the subtlety that you do.

Al Schumann @ 2:52 AM has delivered some solid truths and accurate observations.

What we have now is a bright, rational, thoroughly competent man who is continuing the very same policies that made Cheney/Bush so damaging. He does it in complete sentences, without the twitching and unnerving irritability of the last president.

This is why I horrified my pwoggie friends last year by telling that if I were to vote for a "lesser of two evils", I'd be casting my ballot for John McCain. But the spineless retreat of the lib/pwog anti-war movement, the silence on torture and extraordinary rendition, and the furious backpedaling from any hint of dissent have absolutely vindicated everything I told them.

Cripes, Al. Do you know how difficult it is not to steal your stuff for my own blog?

But, yeah, the sad fact is that the last election broke the brains of pwogwessives just as much as it did their freeper cousins. Only the reasons are different.

Gluelicker, I think you're reading too much into PWOG. S/he isn't addressing the character of Stalinism. He's saying it's Stalinist to not remain in the DP.

It's quite funny, really, considering the cult of personality is one of the two selling points Zerobama hold vis-a-vis his "progressive friends." (The second one being the facilitation of racial self-flattery.)

Al Schumann:

"one has to weigh the price discount
"truckling " to vote hounds
might have
on one's self image
for just a little structural melioration"

Embedded in that is a nasty little problem. The pwog wing, to date, by and large prefers the sense of moral superiority that comes with being driven from one fear to another; through primaries where they agonize about electability; through elections where they agonize about majorities; straight into the arms of the anti-meliorist wing, where they shudder in anticipation of what happens to them after the Rohypnol kicks in. This is their version of political adulthood. And, to date, it's all worthwhile if they get the opportunity to spite the freepers with a meaningless electoral victory.

Al Schumann --

The pwog wing, to date, by and large prefers the sense of moral superiority...

undoubtedly true, it is a dominant aspect of the pwog identity, this moral superiority

however

...that comes with being driven from one fear to another;....

maybe, but I think it's more about simply being superior, which I assume they believe they've "earned" by dint of scrupulously competitive "education" at what ironically are called prestigious institutions.

for the irony there, see the literal meaning of "prestige" and not the watered-down slangified meaning it now holds.

every pwog I know believes he/she is superior to "liberals" because they're "corporate," and superior to all "rethugs" because they're supposedly ignorant rednecks to a man. at the bottom the pwog's fine education allows him/her to see that these superficial distinctions based on appearance, they're irrelevant as played out in American federal politics, because the excuses offered by The Donkle grow weaker each moment.

2000 - never mind that the SCOTUS handed the White House to Bush, we must respect the law!

2004 - damn that Nader, stealing Kerry's votes, making Kerry lose. we should have won here!

2006 - okay, we won the Congress. but the numbers aren't big enough. we can't get anything done 'til we win the White House.

2008 - hey, we got it all. but the majority isn't strong enough, those rethugs still are making Our Noblest Donkle compromise too much. we need at least 24 more years before we can start implemnting the Hopeyest of Hopes and the Changiest of Changes that Our Obamessiah promised us on that hallowed day at the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

pretty soon the excuses wear thin, especially when everywhere a pwog looks, all he can see is a duplication of the Bush/Cheney track record -- and in some cases, a brazen expansion of the things that were supposedly so repulsive under Bush/Cheney.

the movie Scanners reminds me of what I imagine the impending noggin-bursting of a lot of pwogs.

"Hey Sean- How is Wesley Clark a war criminal?

Here are some sites to get you started:

http://www.amnesty.org/en/library/asset/EUR70/018/2000/en/eaeb3f72-df56-11dd-89a6-e712e728ac9e/eur700182000en.html

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/the-bloody-truth-of-how-nato-changed-the-rules-to-win-a-moral-war-in-yugoslavia-724811.html

Clark may be "innocent" of war crimes in the legal sense in that he hasn't been indicted or convicted yet. So is Adolf Hitler and George Bush. Since it is as near impossible to indict and convict an American General for war crimes as it is for my farts to reach the moon, I don't think an indictment or lack thereof ought to be the standard by which voters judge Clark. He deserves his day in court, of course, and I hope he sees that day, but I think there's enough evidence of his character for voters to reject him with extreme prejudice.
