Threats & menaces

By Michael J. Smith on Tuesday January 11, 2011 02:13 PM

Pwogville is wringing its collective hands so much over the Arizona massacre that I fear they may end up permanently crippled. My favorite shrill email from today:

Tell Sarah Palin: Violent Threats Have Consequences!

Sarah Palin has a special responsibility and opportunity in the wake of the attempted assassination of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, because it was Palin who earlier put the crosshairs of a gun on Rep. Giffords.

To be clear: we don't know why the shooter targeted Rep. Giffords and Palin did not arm him or pull the trigger. We don't know if he admired, loathed, or ignored Sarah Palin. But...

But still! But still!

Violent threats have consequences, huh? If only that were so. Bill Gates would have been dead years ago.

Neat avatar, Herr Schmidt!

"Violent threats have consequences, huh?"

Violent threats get results. That's why they're so commonly used.

I've always been amused by folks who will claim that violence isn't the answer because they're most certainly not asking "What is one of the best ways to achieve one's goals?"

As demonstrated daily by the US Emperium violence and the threat of violence is the answer. It works.

Boo yah! Hail, Ignatz!

Sweet, Smiff. I haven't read any Harriman cartoons since, like, college. Thanks a ton; now I gotta go find some Krazy Kat anthology reprints someplace...

But, still... but, still. Yeah, that phrase does seem to have some kind of weird ironic power these days, huh?

I predict that but, still will be the new just sayin'.

As freakishly annoying as the Teabagger rhetoric can get, I'm flat-out scenery chewing over the ten tons of shit in a five-ton bag coming from the Liberals about violent rhetoric. I still remember Clinton, Albright and Yugoslavia. Some "diplomacy"; that goddamn' hag talked so much goddamn' smack at that country that about a week into the Rambouillet talks, she started sounding like a goddamn' gangster.

Not that there's any chance in hell of it, but I really do wish the Liberals would just shut the fuck up about violence. They really do sound fucking crass. Not to put too fine a point on it.

I love that she says Sara has an 'opportunity.' She must be a manager cause she's using it the way they do, to mean fuck-up.

MJS:

I think Offissa Pupp may be my very favorite character from Krazy Kat. But Ignatz is wonderful. Note please that the strip is set in... Arizona!

Nick Hart:

Because Sarah Palin really cares what pwogs have to say...

Note also that comments with three or more links may be held for "moderation" -- a strange term to apply to the ghost in this blog's machine. Seems to be a hard-coded limitation of the blog software, unfortunately.
