Straws in the wind

By Owen Paine on Saturday February 16, 2008 10:16 PM

Nadergram: Ralph teams up with Patti Smith! (No relation to our fearless skipper -- at least I think not).

"Poet, musician, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Patti Smith and citizen activist Ralph Nader have for years used music and words to promote action-for a change. And we've just come across a remarkable newly released DVD. It's called-Awake From Your Slumber."
Will this bring the big cat out of her den? Imagine this finale: St Hill off the turnbuckle into the pelvis of Patti -- yikes, what a show.

For comparison purposes, here are some other musicians' picks:

Well, it's actually good to see that Patti Smith is going with Nader for the third time. I had the honor of shooting her set at the "super rally" they had here in DC the week before the '00 "election". What a great, fun scene, honestly; "Nader Has A Posse" read one handmade banner in the arena (Verizon Center, nee MCI Center, renamed "Emma Goldman Arena" in honor of the event).

Kinda figures, Carly Simon and Bubbie Streisand are going with Hillary; let's hear it for that good old-fashioned Big Glasses Baby-Boom Feminism.

And, yeah -- I know, I'm a Deadhead, but don't ask me why the surviving members of an institution birthed and shaped by the anarchistic hippie/digger SF scene would support any kind of "straight" politician at all. I don't get Pearl Jam falling for Obombirana, either, for pretty much the same reason

Smith should just cut to the chase and declare for the Presidency herself.

NOW and Marcotte and the rest would, with any luck, have a complete meltdown.

gluelicker:

"Barack Obama: ...Jeff Tweedy..."

From one flatulent alterno-fakir to another... it figgers.
